We Met a More Experienced Team in Ghana - Broos

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos does not want to blame his charges for their failure to progress to the final phase of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Bafana Bafana were stunned by Ghana captain, Andre Ayew’s 33rd minute penalty at the Cape Coast Stadium in the final qualifier on Sunday. The two countries shared 13 points apiece atop of Group G after six games but Ghana entered the final stage of the qualifiers with seven goals as against South Africa’s six. Hugo Broos said after the defeat: “We came here to try to play a draw and maybe win.

“But for sure when you are so close and in the position we were, we try to do it. “But again we played against a very strong team and a team with ten times more experience than we have. “We are a new team and you can’t blame South Africa for not to qualify for the next round. “But you can be sure that in the next qualifiers for the AFCON, that we will try to qualify us.” Hugo Broos sais.

South Africa, who defeated Ghana 1-0 in the second Group G fixture at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, will now turn attention to the 2023 Africa Cup Nations qualifies in 2022 after missing out on the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon next year. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Ivory Coast.
