Chelsea Covid-19 updates as Academy ground closes, and senior team fixture change announced

As Covid-19 continues to crash through the world causing pain and disruption, elite sports carry on against the storm.

People need football in moments like this; and it has been a real godsend throughout the lockdowns across the globe, which is why it is concerning and reassuring all in one to read the latest updates off the back of Covid-19 at Chelsea.

It is very concerning to hear that there has been an outbreak at the Chelsea academy, and as a result the players have been told to stay away this week as the centre undergoes a deep clean.

Some have also had to now self-isolate after returning positive test results over the weekend.

However, as a result of a very organised safety protocol at the club, the outbreak has been isolated just within the academy.

The first team and the under-23s train within their own separate bubble, and the academy section of Cobham has been kept completely separate to the rest.

We have not heard of anyone becoming particularly ill at the moment, and hopefully they will all be fine and be able to come back next week once all the cleansing down, re-tests, and isolation has been done.

The other Covid-19 related news is that Chelsea will now play their fixture against Fulham this Saturday at 5.30pm.

This was previously scheduled for Friday night, but Fulham’s fixtures had been reshuffled due to a Covid-19 outbreak at Aston Villa, so they would have had to play twice in two days.

These situations are never ideal, but it feels like clubs are doing all they can to keep safe and follow the strict protocols so that we can continue to keep football going, which is so important for so many people right now.
