FIFA World Cup

You can go back in time and only watch one of these players live, Who are you going for?

If you had the opportunity to watch one of these players Maradona, Zidane and Ronaldinho, who will you bring back to watch play live in a stadium of your choice.

Maradona was technically very, very good. His dribbling, vision and creativity, ball control, and passing were all phenomenal. He was especially adept at luring multiple defenders to close him down, only to burst past them out of the melee with a sudden burst of speed. He was able to lead Argentina to the 1986 World Cup, and Napoli to the 1986/87 Serie A title.

But apart from his physical and technical skills, he was very cunning and mischievous, being full of guile. Maybe this is a reflection of his lower-class upbringing in a Buenos Aires shanty town. In the 1986 World Cup, he scored the controversial ‘Hand of God’ goal against England, hitting the ball into the goal with his hand whilst pretending to head it. In the 1990 World Cup, he used his hand again to block a shot on the goal-line against the Soviet Union. In both instances he was not penalised for it.

Perhaps he can be summed up best in his performance in the 1986 World Cup match against England. First scoring his ‘Hand of God’ goal controversially, his next goal was a one of beauty. He received the ball in his own half, turned and dribbled past 5 England players using only 11 touches. He then body feinted past the goalkeeper, and tapped the ball into the empty net.

That was Diego Maradona – an Archangel, and yet simultaneously villain.

Zidane was one of the best players of his generation. The class he showed in the way he dribbled across defenders, his passing ability, his dribbling was sublime.

You should watch some of his replays where despite good tackles from defenders he could dribble and come out with the ball with ease. And you don't see that anymore; players try to draw fouls at the slightest of touches from tackles today. And then he always got goals, some of the most beautiful ones a midfielder can score!

Ronaldinho in his prime was the best football player of all time but consistency is something important and thats why he isnt there with Maradona, Pele, Messi and others. But if you look just at their primes, Ronaldinho is better than any player there is and was.

Who will you love to see play live in their prime.
