There is no doubt about the pride of having a very strong football national team filled with a lot of talented players.
Over the years, football lovers have wished their teams had the best players just so that they could conquer and win continental or world trophies.
In Ghana, the opposite seems to be the reality and it can be attributed to the loss of interest in the Black stars as a result of their failure to win any silverware for the nation in about three (3) decades.
When the Black stars qualified to the World Cup for the first time in 2006, Ghanaians had a lot of hope that if nothing at all, the Black stars could be winning the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the subsequent years.
Unfortunately, silverware continues to elude the Black stars after sixteen (16) years.
Popular Ghanaian Sports pundit, Juliet Bawuah, taking to her Facebook page posted three (3) foreign based players with Ghanaian heritage and asked who Ghanaians would choose if they had the opportunity to select one (1).
Interestingly and unlike sometime back, some people advised the players against playing for Ghana.
See screenshots of the conversation below;
These suggestions are evidence of how some people have grown out of love the the national football team and to some extent, football in the country entirely.
To bring the love back, I believe doing things right more especially in the local league and colts football in the country is the surest way to go.
We can love and support the Black stars again but it has to start from below the ranks of the football ladder in the country.
Do you think we should convince those foreign based players to switch nationalities and play for Ghana?
