Black Stars head coach C. K. Akonnor announced his squad on Friday, ahead of Afcon qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé and Principe next month. Obviously, some players got missing in the list, which has sent tongues wagging from different perspectives. For the avoidance of doubt, not all players from the local league could be invited at ago. 

Concerns have been expressed as to why these  players did not make the list. 

Yahaya Mohammed (Aduana Stars)

The Aduana Stars striker has been in action most times this season, not only does he play regular but also scored for his team. He has not felt short of his ambitions to capture the goal king gong. He remains a strong contender  in the goal king race. His exclusion may be due to unknown reasons, which may not be available in the public domain. 

Habib Mohammed ( Asante Kotoko)

The energetic defender was snubbed in the list that was released yesterday. He is an integral member of the current Asante Kotoko set up. He has been deployed in various roles by coach Johnson Smith this season. His presence at the rear calms nerves down whenever his team plays. His omission has triggered discussions in the sporting fraternity.

Abdul Manaf Umar ( Accra Hearts of Oak)

The attacking midfielder was not seen in the list, as some wondered the reason behind this decision. Nonetheless, it could be due to their recent form. The entire Hearts of Oak squad has come under immense criticism over their attitude on the field of play. On the other hand, coach C. K. Akonnor may not be convinced by his overall performance.

Richie Attah ( Accra Hearts of Oak)

The goalkeeper did not receive an invite. Obviously, his team is yet to settle in the area of goalkeeping this season. He came under unbearable pressure when he conceded goals earlier this season. He started the league as first choice, relinquish his spot to Richmond Ayi and later bounced back. His exclusion may be considered normal.

Umar Bashiru ( Karela United)

The exclusion of the versatile midfielder is demanding answers from the head coach. Since their opening fixture against AshantiGold at the Len Clay Stadium, he has stayed on track this season. He continues to be relied upon heavily by Karela United. He was tipped to make the list but was swerved after the announcement. There may be other plans for him.
