In less than a month, Accra Hearts of Oak will host Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Casablanca in a second preliminary fixture. The Ghanaian representative needs to get issues fixed in their camps before approaching the game.
News went viral last night about a possible walkover for Accra Hearts of Oak because, Wydad Athletic Casablanca are reported to have allegedly breached transfer rules, hence their ineligibility to participate in this season’s CAF Champions League. The reports further noted that a lawyer to some of the parties notified Accra Hearts of Oak of the possible sanctions against WAC. Some supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak took to social media to express delight over what seems to be good news for them. It must be put on record that, officially Accra Hearts of Oak have not commented on this issue or otherwise.
The rainbow club must not be concerned about this news, since the final decision must be determined by the Confederation of African Football, CAF. Whatever there is to be known or decided will be communicated to the club.
The technical bench must stay awake in whatever preparations they are engaged in. The coming fixture must be a major concern to the entire Accra Hearts of Oak fraternity. Any moves of banking hopes on that WAC issue will not be in the best interest of the team. They are preparing but this news could have its psychological ramifications on the team. Until CAF writes to officially notify them, there will not be any relevance in enquiring about this matter, as suggested by some pundits.
Another issue of concern has to do with Gladson Awako, who is yet to report to camp after seeking permission to attend to personal matters. Different reports have emerged about the future of the midfielder pre and post CI Kamsar game. The club almost encountered tumultuous moments hours to the game, but stayed on course to see off the Guinean club.
While channeling energy to the WAC game, it will be extremely prudent for Accra Hearts of Oak to bring the issue to finality. Although the club has publicly indicated that they look forward to seeing the player report to camp, they must - behind the scenes - resolve matters before it resurfaces. The imminent fixture has its dynamics hence, nothing must be allowed to throw the focus and future of the team into disarray.
Accra Hearts of Oak must put issues in order by ensuring that, there will not be loopholes for destruction. The task must be executed but well executed.
