Former Black stars and U20 World Cup goalkeeper winner Daniel Agyei has joined Ethiopian giants Wolaita Dicha SC on a short-term deal. The 31-year-old has signed a contract with the club until the end of the 2020/2021 season. Adjei who was part of the U20 team that won both the U20 Afcon and the World Cup in Egypt 2009 has make a new move.Due to his individual brilliance and sheer quality,he helped both his club and the national team to major honours.
He was with Mekelle Kenema but due to the Trigray Region war the club is not competing in the Ethiopia Premier League this campaign.Agyei has had stints with Free State Stars in South Africa, Tanzanian giants Simba SC and Ghana Premier League outfit Medeama SC.
The former Liberty Professionals shot stopper was named best goalkeeper in Ethiopia in 2018 after leading Jimma Abba Jifar to win the league for the first time.He has shared glorious moments with top notch players such as Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan,black stars skipper Andre Dede Ayew, Ransford Osei, Dominic Adiyiah, Samuel Inkoom just to mention a few. He was one of the key players for “Scientific Soccer Lads” in the 2008/2009 season before making it to the U20 World Cup glory.
He was also part of the the black stars team that came second in the AFCON 2010 held in Angola.He made 14 clean sheets for the East African side Jimma Abba Jiffar to emerge as the best goalie in the end of season awards.
Many believe he is at the twilight of his career but the number one shot stopper is yet to prove his worth to his new club as many will monitor the success he has achieved in recent years
