The Bafana Bafana lost 1-0 to the Black Stars at the Cape Coast Stadium in the last 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Ghana captain, Andre Ayew’s 33rd minutes penalty confirmed a place for the four time African champions in the final playoffs for a place at the next World Cup in Qatar. The defeat has since not gone down well with the 1996 AFCON winners who have petitioned world governing body, FIFA over the penalty award to Ghana.
In a press conference by the South Africa Football Association [SAFA] to provide updates on the FIFA petition, coach Broos said he sensed that referee Ndiaye will be against his side just 15 minutes into the game. “And then the game started and after 15 minutes, I went to my bench and said to my two assistants ‘forget it, forget it, Ghana will win this game,” he said in a SAFA Press conference “And in my career, there are those games that you think that the referee is against you.” he added.
Ghana and South Africa finished level on 13 points after six matches but the Black Stars scored more goals as against South Africa’s six to progress to the final playoffs.
