There is no doubt that seniority in certain things or events yields good results. Even in sport, especially football, players who have spent much time in a particular team know a lot of things about the team and can help make some impact. These senior players can help a team to increase their chances of winning games. But there is a possibility that, these players may have reached a level where they cannot add any value to the team and hence there will be the need to replace them with new and promising young ones.
This the exact thing that goes on in the world of football. Almost in every country players that have played for a particular team over a long time are highly valued but most often they keep the ones that add a lot of value to the team.
Ghanaian playmaker and the captain of the Black Stars, Andre Dede Ayew has told Ghanaians and fans of the Black Stars of Ghana that, the senior players in the Black Stars have an advantage of going to the World Cup. He added that, no place is guaranteed for everyone. And due to that everyone must prove their quality on the field to have a chance. He revealed this through Al Jaseera.
Andre Dede Ayew said, "Apart from senior players who may have an advantage, I believe no one is guaranteed a place in the squad just yet. Everyone must prove their quality on the field and everyone has a chance."For myself, to be real, I don’t have personal targets. The only personal target I had and still have since I joined the Black Stars was to win a trophy with the team."
Andre Ayew has a point, but if the Black Stars of Ghana consider others because of seniority in the team, then they might end up sending a less quality squad to the World Cup. Ghana is a household name in African football and we have have to send the best to the World Cup, else the Black Stars will end up disgracing us like they did in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Seniority is vital, but let's us go to the World Cup with players who have the quality and can help us bring the cup home.
