Coach of Division two Side Yendi Sankara Nationals has died following a short illness. Mohammed Gariba known Popularly as "Bannerman" reportedly lost consciousness and fell off his motorbike on his way to training and was rushed to the Yendi Municipal hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Coach Bannerman has since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition. Close friends to the coach said he has been very fit and show no sign of dying when he supervised the training of his team yesterday.
The Yendi Municipal Football Association where Bannerman served as vice president has called off footballing activities in the Municipality until further notice to allow time to mourn the fallen coach. The Northern Regional Football Association has also sent their condolence to his family and club, describing his death as shocking and a great loss to football in the Northern region.
"We wish to urge Sankara Nationals and for that matter the Yendi Municipal Football Association to stay strong and focus in their endeavours during this difficult times," a statement from the NRFA said.
