Black Stars Captain Dede Ayew To Qatari Side Al Sadd: A Retirement Package?

Black Stars skipper Dede Ayew, according to reports, is on the verge of joining Qatari side Al Sadd. The 31-year old winger is club-less after parting ways with English Championship side Swansea City at the end of the just ended season.

Following the announcement of his departure, several clubs were linked with the son of Abedi Ayew Pele. Premier League teams such as West Ham United, Crystal Palace and others were reported to have shown interest in the Black Stars captain. Spanish clubs were mentioned as well as other suitors from Germany and France.

After news went viral about the transfer of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu to Saudi Arabian side Al Raed, Dede Ayew was linked with same club. It was anticipated, his countryman may encourage him to join him for a successful tenure.

If the deal ends up successful, could that be a retirement package for the skipper Dede Ayew?

At 31, it is feasible for the Dede Ayew to maintain a stay in mainstream Europe, but he may be extremely appreciative of time spent in European continent. From a stint in France to England and Turkey, Dede Ayew may have taken the new opportunity to bid a farewell to European football. Whiles reports were rife about other interested clubs from Europe, the expectation will have been, for the winger to close a deal, but that appears to be vanishing into the thin air.

Joining Al Sadd at 31, to a large extent reveal motives behind such transfer. For playing time, Dede’s clout guarantees ample time to enjoy football. He could only be ruled out by injury other than a technical decision. There maybe other competitors but a deal of this nature comes with various demands and agreement.

On financial side of the coin, it cannot be entirely ruled out as a bait to attract a player of the his pedigree.

Afcon finalist Dede Ayew will be assured of a constant smile to bank on regular basis. Hitting the twilight of his career must be compensated for suitors who run after his services.

If time permits for Dede Ayew, there could another opportunity to make a return to Europe, if he exceeds expectations and convince clubs of his readiness to rejoin.

Although Qatari League has its standard, but the level may impact on the career of Dede Ayew.

The transfer may be subject to various analyses, but time will be the better judge to confirm if Black Stars skipper is going for a retirement package.
