A Brand New World: Augmented Reality

The world of tech is constantly changing, and that includes the definition of words. In this case, augmented reality is a term for a live view of a real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory inputs, such as sound or graphics. So why do I think anyone cares about this? Well, it could be useful in many ways. Augmented reality is currently used in games and even car navigation systems like Mercedes’ brand new MBUX system.

Augmented reality is the computer-generated enhancement of a person’s view of his or her physical environment, providing added information or interactivity. This is done by means of various technologies, such as GPS and wireless communications, which can be used to show additional information about a person’s surroundings in real time. Augmented reality systems are often used to display information about the environment, such as current position or future directions.

The term "augmented reality" was coined by Jaron Lanier in 1993 to refer to the concept that our world is made up of three layers: the real world (the everyday objects you can see and touch), virtual worlds (elements created by humans in order to make sense of what's going on around them), and simulations (computer simulations).

Augmented reality is a cool technology. It's a new way to interact with the world, and it's here now. You can use your phone to see virtual images that are superimposed on top of what you're seeing in real life (or vice versa).

And augmented reality is awesome!
