Internet of things a game-changer In Our Education System

Understanding the Internet of Things is easier than what some people might think. Although we do notice that a large percentage of people is still not familiar with it, the Internet of Things is rapidly becoming part of our lives.

What is the Internet of Things?

The Internet of Things or IoT for short is a game-changer in the way we understand and use smart devices. Around the world, more than 80% of the population is now using at least one smart device and connects to the internet daily.

The term Internet of Things refers to the devices that are collecting and transmitting data through the internet. It is an innovation that has been around for a few years now and it will completely revolutionize the way we perceive and use data we gather from pretty much everything.

It is a game-changer

At the moment we are experiencing the benefits of what we call the normal internet. We getting online every day to browse the web, search for information, make purchases and we can do all of that from a computer or a smart device such as a smartphone or tablet.

The internet is now the most commonly used “thing” of our daily lives. We are always looking for it, and a great part of our lives evolves around it. What the Internet of Things will do is to make the connection to the internet seem invisible.

From a certain point after, every device will be connected to the internet, from appliances to cars to our beds and chairs. Of course, the Internet cannot be invisible in the literal sense. Try to imagine it being like electricity. We know it’s there, we use it every day but it does seem invisible.

Revolutionizing energy consumption

If we were to choose one sector where the Internet of Energy will certainly thrive, that would be the energy sector. Imagine being able to turn all of your appliances on and off from your phone, while you are at work.

Now imagine being able to know at every moment exactly how much energy each appliance is consuming every moment of every day. Lastly, imagine being able to control that amount to make sure that, when you are not at home, your house is not using more energy than the minimum amount possible.

With the use of smart grids, smart meters, and of course the Internet of Things technology, we are now able to do that. From homes, all the way to big industrial building, the IoT appears to give promising solutions to the energy consumption problem which is of course one of the biggest environmental issues of today!

Learning about IoE

On a personal and professional level, we must all make sure that we are going to receive the right education regarding the Internet of Things. Luckily, there is a lot of free, professionally created material out there that is enough to get us started on this amazing journey.

By paying a visit to the official website of the EU funded project Internet of Energy you will find yourselves in front of a plethora of information specifically created to raise awareness among European companies and professionals about the potential of the Internet of Energy technologies and teach them how to apply these technologies.
