A Tanzanian passenger plane, Precision Air has crashed into Africa's biggest lake, Lake Victoria a few hours ago when it attempted to land at the lakeside town of Bukoba.

A total of 43 passengers were onboard. 26 have been rescued and sent to the hospital with the efforts of city officials and local fishermen. 3 have been confirmed dead. Both pilots are alive but still trapped in the cockpit. They are able to communicate with the rescue team outside as efforts are still ongoing to free the trapped pilots.

The remaining number of passengers have not yet been accounted for. Locals and rescue officials have since pulled the ATR-42 Aircraft with ropes closer to the shore. The aircraft was almost submerged completely with only the tail wing out of the water.

The airport runway ends very close to the lake. The pilots are said to have missed it due to bad weather. Precision Air is a private domestic carrier co-owned by Kenya Airways.
