Ghana's political history can not be written without making mention to General Kotoka who was the main orchestrator of the bloody february 4th, 1966 coup that overthrew our first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
It should be reechoed that the only international airport in the country has been named after him, that is the Kotoka international airport at Accra. But one powerful subchief of the Ashanti kingdom, by the name Nana Nana Daasebre Obrikomfour has advised the name Kotoka be removed from the Airport immediately.
Speaking live on Net 2 TV's The Seat show hosted by kwaku Annan, the chief briefed that General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka was a Ghanaian military officer who was a member of the ruling National Liberation Council which overthrew Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP government after which he was made commissioner for the minister of health as well as General commanding officer of the Ghana Armed Forces under the rule of Major Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa.
The chief confirmed the Airport which was formerly Ghana international airport was named after Kotoka because he was shot by Lt. Yeboah at the same spot on April 1st 1967. He further confirmed that until the name is from Kotoka internationaerl airport into Kwame Nkrumah international airport the nation will Nkrumah see progress because Nkrumah never forgave Kotoka till his death and that bitterness is covering the country like the cloud in spiritual realm.
Do you agree with the Chief that Kotoka did nothing that merits his name being named after the only international airport in the country?
