U/W: Upper West Airport Stops Commercial Flights

The Upper West Airport has stopped commercial operation for over 2 months.

The Upper West Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih Has explained the reason for the development, he added that the Transport Minister, Mr. Kweku Ofori Asiamah was in his Office on talks to resume operation after a network mast is removed to pave way for smooth flight. The Airport is Located in Wa.

The Ministers were accompanied to the airport by the Wa MCE, Mr. Issahaku Tahiru Moomin.

Statement from the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council

"The Minister for Transport, Hon Kweku Ofori Asiamah together with officials from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Ghana Airport Company were in Wa to see at first hand the issues affecting air operations at the Wa Airport. Commercial flights to Wa Airport halted in March 2020 and efforts have been made to resolve the challenges that let to the situation. There is a telecommunication mast located on the flight way of the Wa Airport that affects the safety of aircrafts using the airport. According to Hon Asiamah the mast shall be removed so that commercial flights will resume operations at the Wa Airport. The Minister paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, Wa Naa Fusieni Pelpuo IV at his palace."
