There are over 120 public Senior High Schools in Ghana. These schools have been group or ranked into categories or grades. These rankings were based on the school's recent academic performances and achievements. The highest ranking starts from A, then B, followed by C, and then D. There are however only six grade A schools in the Ashanti region.

The National Science and Maths Quiz competition is still on going with its full thrills for fans across Ghana expecially those who are very interested in learning science. Today's contest featured Opoku Ware Senior High School, Mpraeso Senior High School and Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School who battled to secure their slots in the quarter finals.
The rivalry between Prempeh College and Opoku Ware School (OWASS) dates back to some decades ago. These two schools are all academically inclined and want to show superiority in the Ashanti Region. Whenever Prempeh College meets Opoku Ware School, the tension generated is just overwhelming.
"Who said man no dey" . The contests that has been described as the finals before finals ended the Semi finals stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz competition. The contest featured Prempeh College, Opoku Ware Senior High School and KNUST Senior High School. The contest was so heated that Ashanti Region could not wait to hear the last riddle read out and make judgements.
In Ashanti Region, the most competitive High Schools when it comes to academics are Prempeh College and Opoku Ware school. These two schools have over the years been competing as to who is better than the other. Though both schools have carved a very good niche for themselves, disagreement of who is superior is what has become debatable over the ages.
After several rounds in the Quater-final stage of the 2021 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition, a total of nine (9) Senior High Schools have qualified to compete in the NSMQ semi-final stage. Generally, 119 Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the 16 Regions of the country started the preliminary stage divided into 8 Regions and Zones of this year’s edition of the popular National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
There has been no contest in the National Science and Math Quiz better than the contest we just witnessed this evening. Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College proved to Ghanaians the reason why they are the pride of the Ashanti Region. Talk about intelligence, both schools have got it all and really made the competition interesting.
Today marks the semi finals stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz competition with only nine schools in Ghana remaining. This is one of the most difficult stage to predict who wins since any school that makes it this far is a good candidate to win the cup.
Opoku Ware School is currently in a relaxed mood after the tough time imposed on them by Mpraeso SHS finally came to an end. Before the contest, one would straightaway choose Opoku Ware School as favorites without thinking twice. Most people were expecting them to set a record with the schools they met looking at their pedigree and also, the fact that the competition is being hosted on their soil.
This evening's contest is the semifinal of this year's edition of the NSMQ but talking into consideration the schools involved, I think it is safe to say it is more than a final. Many people have tagged it as the "El Classico" of the National Science and Math Quiz since it sees two rival schools facing off.
The National Science And Maths Quiz going on in Kumasi keeps springing up surprises as the competition enters the quarterfinals. Prior to the quarterfinals, Mpraeso SHS nearly caused Opoku Ware School a heart attack after putting up a strong performance even though they could not triumph. The greatest shock was however loading.
Host and Win have been on the lips of schools from the Ashanti Region since the commencement of the competition which they host for the first time. The region has the highest representation in the quarterfinals with seven schools; three were able to walk into the semifinals: KNUST SHS, Opoku Ware School, and Prempeh College all made it to the semifinal stage on the last day of the contest and are expected to face each other at this stage.

Yesterday on the 23rd of November 2021, Ashanti Region specifically Kumasi was full of tension over a much anticipated competition between Opoku Ware school and Prempeh College. Anytime these two big schools in Kumasi meet at the National Science and Maths Quiz, it becomes a talk of town due to the controversy surrending both schools.
The National Science and Maths Quiz on Tuesday 23 November 2021 confirmed all the three Senior high schools that have made it to the finals. Among the schools are Presbyterian Boys Senior High, Prempeh College and Keta Senior High Technical School. The finals is scheduled for Friday, 26th November 2021.
Meet The Daughter of Late Asantehene Opoku Ware II who is Ghana's First Female Ambassador to Russia.
From a royal Ashanti background, Her Excellency Oheneba Dr. Lesley Akyaa Opoku Ware is the daughter of late Asantehene Otumfour Opoku Ware II, who reigned for 29 years from 1970 to 1999, preceding the current Asantehene. Dr. Akyaa Opoku Ware graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland (RCSI) in 1981.
The Ashantihene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second has applauded Gyaama Pensan Senior High School for beating Opoku Ware School and Achimota School to win the National Renewal Energy Competition 2021. " The school leading all the the others is a sign of greatness and therefore must be recognised on that level".
The One-eighth Stage of the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) came to a successful end today, November 18, 2021 with 5 exciting contests. Two-time NSMQ Champions and one of the best Senior High Schools in Ashanti Region, Opoku Ware School (OWASS) began its 2021 NSMQ campaign with a contest against Mpraeso SHS and Yaa Asantewaa Girls' SHS.
