In today's article, I will be taking you down memory lane, to the only female senior high school that got the opportunity to compete with prominent boy's schools in the Grande finale of the National Science and Math Quiz competition.
The 2020 National Science and Maths quiz began on the 8th of September this year. The quiz usually takes place between June and July but due to the corona virus pandemic, it was delayed this year and scheduled to take place place in September. The 2020 National Science and Maths Quiz was launched on September 1, 2020 at the GNAT Hall after a long hiatus caused by the spread of the novel Coronavirus. For some years the competition has generated so many positive reviews and has been a bragging rights for many students. The National Science and Maths Quiz is an annual educative competition for Government senior high schools in the country sponsored by the Ghana Education Service and over 900 schools participate in this competition. The sole aim of the Quiz is to promote the study of science and mathematics in various senior high schools and also help students adapt with the sciences around them, whiles encouraging healthy academic rivalry among various schools. Nowadays, we only hear of alliances when it comes to high school formalities. There are some boy's schools that have been paired with girls' schools situated in the same region.This is done to ensure there is a bit of friendly relationship between students of the two institutions.
On Tuesday 29th September, the 1/8th stage of National Science and Maths Quiz featured Prempeh College, St. Thomas Aquinas and Asanteman SHS. At this stage any school which got kicked out will had to go back to the preliminary stages of the competition next year and begin their journey from there. Schools which also succeeded this point will qualify to the Quarter final stage of the Competition and will automatically become seeded begining their journey from the 1/ 8th stage next year. The 2013 National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) winners contested in yesterday's regional qualifiers.Their competitors during the contest were Ada, Wesley Grammar and 'Frafraha' SHS.Looking at the NSMQ records of St Thomas Aquinas, it was obvious they would prove a point because they have more experience than the other contestants.
