The Armed Forces or the military is the defensive organ responsible for protecting a country against any internal or external attacks. In Ghana, the military or armed forces is established by the constitution of the country. The Armed Forces Act 1962, ACT 105 defines the rules and arrangements of the functions of the armed forces.
The Ghana Armed Forces were formed in 1957. The Ghana Armed Forces comprises the army, navy, and air force. The president is the Commander-in-chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. The Armed Forces are primarily responsible for the protection of Ghana's territorial integrity from foreign aggression, and to maintain internal security.
