Educationists Worried Of Growing Indiscipline Among Students, Wants Corporal Punishment Restored

A symposium held by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has disclosed a worrying trend of growing indiscipline in the Ghanaian students which in a way, is having a huge negative effect on the educational system. Per their words and actions, it appears that there seems to ba an upsurge of students disrespecting the laws in their various schools, and or authorities who are in charge of the affairs of the schools after corporal punishments was abolished by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has condemned some school administrators for spreading rumors that there is a food shortage in their institutions. Some regional chairs of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) warned that if the government failed to provide food, schools would be compelled to close.

According to Peter Attah Gyamfi, the Eastern Region Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS), 2,838 bags of rice and sugar have been supplied by the National Food Buffer Stock Company to 25 schools in the Region. He is hopeful that more of the necessary supplies will be given to the remaining over 70 senior high schools in the Region that have not yet received food supplies.

Good news to all Senior High School students in Ghana as the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has confirmed that the heads of various public Senior High Schools (SHSs) have received the feeding grants released by the government earlier last week. The government through the Ministry of Education announced that an amount of hundred million Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 100 million) had been released on May 14 for the feeding of students in public Senior High Schools throughout the country.
