MTTD to force long distance drivers to get 2 drivers or risk not traveling on such routes any longer

District Commander of Police and the Director-General of the Ghana Police Service's Motor Traffic and Transport Department, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko has hinted that soon his unit is going to deploy more forces to ensure that almost every vehicle plying on the major roads have two drivers. He made this known at a workshop his outfit organized together with other stakeholders to identify and make decisions on curbing the carnage on the major roads in the country.

The man was arrested at a community called Zabrama after he escaped from an earlier operation. Two thousand, three hundred and eighty (2,380) people have been killed within a space of 10 months – January to October, this year, through road crashes. Twelve thousand, eight hundred and ninety-nine (12,899) others suffered cuts and broken bones. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Francis Aboagye Nyarko, Director General of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who gave the figures said during the period, there were a total of 13,244 road crashes and the number of vehicles involved stood at 33,408.
