Some forty years ago, 1982, a certain 17-year old Abedi Ayew (Pele) became the star-attraction at the 13th African Cup of Nations held in Muammar Gaddafi’s Libya. The tournament was held in Libyan cities of Tripoli and Benghazi. In a tournament that had many well-established African Stars like Ledkar Belloumi and Ali Ferghani of Algeria, Christian Chukwu of Nigeria and John Essien of Ghana, petite Pele breached the prediction of the book-makers to lead Ghana to its 4th African Cup of Nations triumph.

In an international friendly game in Spain on Tuesday evening, Ghana's Black Stars defeated Nicaragua by a solitary goal. Following a loss to Brazil's Selacao, the Black Stars needed a big win and performance against a North American country in Spain. Ghana had a higher share of possession in the first 45 minutes of the game but was unable to penetrate the opposition's defense line, which was well-organized at the back.
