Madam Louisa Iris Arde after being rejected by the Jomoro district Assemblymen on last Friday's first Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) election has finally been approved by these same members of the assembly in today's MCE election. On the 8th of October, 2021, the Jomoro Municipal Assembly embarked on the MCE election to approve the nominated or appointed Municipal Chief Executive Louisa Iris Arde but unfortunately she didn't get the two-thirds of the total number of assembly members that voted.
The Jomoro Municipal Assembly and Constituency has never been ruled by two female government officials. What this means is that, the District and Constituency as well has never been ruled together by a female Municipal Chief Executive and a female Member of Parliament but the results from yesterday's MCE election has made this possible for the first time.
The Jomoro Municipal Assembly will now have and witness a different trend in leadership. The one of the two Municipalities on the Nzema lands might get the opportunity to have the first woman as the Municipal Chief Executive, because for the first time a woman has been appointed or nominated by the President to be approved by the members of the assembly in the district.
For the past months, the Jomoro Parliamentarian, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has been battling out a petition challenging her eligibility to hold officer after a successful parliamentary election in December 2020. Unmoved by the threats to her political career, Affo-Toffey continues to push for some projects including infrastructure, credits for women, and other social support services in her constituency.
There is no room for an escape from the legal consequences leaching on the Jomoro Parliamentarian, Dorcas Affo-Toffey until she produces some strong argument to counter a petition filed to challenge the legibility of her office. She had wished to be rescued by the Appeals Court in Cape Coast with an application to stay execution of a Sekondi High Court, which was filed on 29 June 2021.
