The president of the republic of Ghana president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finally announced full list of metropolitan municipal and district chief executives today, Sunday, 19th September 2021. The ministry of information has hold press conference today to announce the much awaited MMDCEs list for the various 16 Regions of Ghana.
It is surprising as to why the election of MMDCES has become such a big deal in Ghana to the extent that the central regional minister, Justina Marigold Assan, will kneel before assembly members to beg for her favorite nominee for the Mayorship of Cape Coast to be confirmed.
The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe, has released the list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) nominees by President Akufo-Addo. Out of the 260 appointments, only 38 are women. In a press conference, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah urged to support these MMDCEs as they continued the government's development agenda.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says he will not be playing king maker role - decide for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who leads them to the 2024 general election. He would not throw his support behind any of the aspiring candidates. Many of the party’s supporters in the Ashanti Region, the party’s support base, are however unconvinced by the assurance.
The various MMDCE nominees for the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in Ghana have been subjected a constitutional process that is expected to eventually legitimise their appointment. Ghanaians had expected that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would have constituted his government in the shortest period of time after his re-election.
The list of the next batch of MMDCEs has been released by the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Mr. Dan Botwe. The list has brought tsunami in some homes, and parts of the country. Whilst some people are jubilating, others are angry at the President for nominating persons who are not true members of the New Patriotic party to serve as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive.
President Nana Addo does not enjoy his role as the person to appoint and dismiss, Gabby Otchere Darko said. He made this statement when the list of MMDCEs nominees list was released by the president. Gabby then said, the president finds his work tiresome and does not see any pleasure in nominating and dismissing appointees.
After MMDCEs list was released, one of the metropolitan municipal and district chief executive who has been sacked from office by president Nana Akufo-Addo which surprises many in the Bono Region in the Wenchi Municipality is Hon Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie. His marvelous performance has keep people's faith and thinking that he will be maintain in office by president Nana Akufo-Addo but the president changed him for good which shocked many in the Municipality.
The long awaited list of MMDCEs is finally out. In Ghana, the governance structure consist of many institutions and bodies which starts from the central government (the executive, legislative and judiciary). The executive is headed by the president, the legislative by the speaker and judiciary by the chief justice.

Luckily, since the announcement was made on Sunday, the region has been very calm despite the fact that some key persons have been replaced in their jobs.

The Coalition of MMDCEs aspirants have called for peace after the President's release of the list of nominees. There were pockets of violence in some parts of the country after the list of nominated MMDCEs were released on Sunday, 19th September 2021. The national president of the group, Mr. Emmanuel Frimpong Obrempong told all nominees to work closely with stakeholders to enhance development in their various communities.
