On Thursday, August 11, Kumasi Central police detained three students, Akwasi Adu Donkor, Raphael Owusu Appiah, and Kwadwo Osei Asubonteng, for assaulting a taxi driver and stealing his cab at gunpoint. On Friday morning, police notified the school administration, and it was determined that the suspects were indeed Opoku Ware School students.
The rate at which students are misbehaving and doing things that are not legal is very worrying. It was reported that, three boys were arrested for robbery and it was confirmed that these boys are students of Opoku Ware School. Today, the school confirmed that these students are actually their students.
Opoku Ware School popularly known as (OWASS) is one of the top rank second cycle institutions located at Santasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Established in 1952, the catholic boys school was named after the Asante king then, Opoku Ware I. The students are known collectively as Akatakyie, an Asante word meaning "conquering heroes".
After going through the stages of contest, Opoku Ware School is now the new Ashanti Regional Champions in the 2022 edition of National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Opoku Ware School who contested with Kumasi High School and Osei Tutu SHS in the finals ended being the champions.

The final of the National Science and Math Quiz is finally over and at the end of the last round, Prempeh College emerged victorious. They have really fought a good fight, taking into consideration the threat their opponents posed on them. This is the first time the show has been hosted in the garden city of Kumasi and looking at the schools who made it to the finals, there was no Kumasi school in the finals but Prempeh College.
