The Privileges Committee has for some time now been waiting to hear the case involving Kennedy Agyapong and a motion brought forward by the Multimedia Group. The Multimedia Group petitioned Parliament over claims that one of her own, Kennedy Agyapong threatened the life of one of their journalists.
Kennedy Agyapong is one of the hottest trending personalities currently in Ghana. His latest news being a report brought against him by Multimedia Group for threats made on one of their journalists. A petition was laid at the feet of some powerful institutions and personalities over this threat.
The Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mr Mahama Ayariga has warned that there is no way Mr Kennedy Agyepong would be allowed to treat the current Parliament with disrespect and impunity as it has been in the past. A section of the public have expressed scepticism about the possibility of the Privileges Committee holding the Assin Central accountable, following his referral to to same given the fact this would not be the first time of him appearing before the committee.
Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the Second Deputy Speaker, has deferred decision on a proposal to summon the National Democratic Congress's National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, to the Privileges Committee. Habib Iddrisu, the Tolon MP, made a motion on the floor requesting that the Speaker report Sammy Gyamfi to the Committee for making comments that he believes are disrespectful to Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumani Bagbin has urged the MP for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong to be mindful about some of his utterances. He indicated that, though MPs do have certain immunities but there are some of limitations and cannot be extended to the media space or any other place than the floor of parliament, where such immunities can effectively be utilized, and therefore he summons the MP before the privileges committee for a threatening comments made against Erastus Asare Donkor of multimedia.
Speaker of Parliament has hauled the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, before the Privileges Committee for allegedly threatening the life of a Multimedia Group journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, referred him to the Committee following a submission by the National Democratic Congress MP for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini that Kennedy Agyapong has called for serious beatings of the journalist and added that he would have ensured he is beaten mercilessly if he, Kennedy Agyapong, were the President.
The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, will face the Privileges Committee of parliament on August 5. This was after members of the committee held a meeting to discuss the modalities for his ‘trial’ which will be held in public although via zoom.
