Good News To All University Students In Ghana As NUGs Call UTAG and SSA-UoG To Return To Classrooms

National Union of Ghana students have requested the University Teacher Association of Ghana (UTAG) and Senior Staff Association- UG(SSA-UoG) to return to classrooms and teach despite the current strike UTAG and SSA-UoG on 30th July registered their displeasure towards government's delay in honouring the full terms of their agreements and hinted on starting indefinite strike today, August 2nd 2021.

SSA-UoG meeting with the minister for Employment and Labour Relations ended inconclusively.

Universities senior staff in Ghana who constituted majority group in the university's staff system met Labour Relations minister for dialogue, and the meeting was inconclusive. SSA-UoG has embark industrial strike action since last month demanding for non basic allowance, market premium and pension tier 2 arrears.

In the event that the government does not reinstate their working conditions, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has vowed to resign from their position. Professor Solomon Nunoo, the president of UTAG, claims that the government's refusal to meet their demands, such as the Book and Research allowance, has a continuing impact on how they carry out their responsibilities.

Universities' Senior Staff go on strike on Monday, August 2

The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has directed its members to embark on industrial strike from August 2, 2021, following government’s failure to address the concerns raised over their conditions of service. In a statement dated July 30, 2021 and signed by the National Chairman of the association, Zakaria Mohammed, it said the government failed to “respect and fulfil the agreements between both parties (the association and government) at different intervals.”
