Law maker for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah has lashed out at some Ghanaians who keep groaning under the guise of hardships in the country. According to the former minister of trade there is no doubt that the country is facing certain challenges but some members of the opposition are using this to denigrate the government.
Today, the Member of Parliament for the Tema West constituency, Honorable Carlos Ahenkorah, suggested in Parliament that when they are marking the attendance, they should subtend the marking to the various committee. He made this statement because, sometimes, some MPs are marked absent, even when these MPs are at the parliamentary committee meetings.
The 8th Parliament of Ghana started off with some bizzare and chaotic incidence and sadly ended in the same manner for the year 2021. Among the two hundred and seventy-five (275) Members of Parliament three of them by all standards made history for the year under review.
Carlos Ahenkorah, the Member of Parliament for the Tema West Constituency, who doubles as the Chair of the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee in Parliament has come under severe backlash from the public for his comment on the E-levy. In an interview with a TV3 journalist, the Tema West legislator insisted that the controversy surrounding the proposed E-levy is needles since you only pay when you decide to use the electronic medium for payment.
The Honourable Member of Parliament for Tema West, Mr Carlo Ahenkorah has urged Ghanaians to disregard the viral headlines in circulation about his recent comments regarding the Electronic Levy. In a video being widely circulated both on social and traditional media, Mr Ahenkorah in defending the controversial Electronic Levy argued that the levy is targeted towards only those who have the money and can pay to use the electronic service.

This comes after the minority caucus disagreed with the presiding speaker over his decision to cast his vote in the house. The minority stood firm and made it clear to him that, he cannot vote since he is the presiding speaker.
If every Ghanaian will criticize honourable Francis Xavier Sosu then it should not be Honourable Carlos Ahenkorah, the Member of Parliament of Tema West. Of course no one is disputing the fact that, the MP for the Tema West constituency has the right to comment about the demonstration that occurred in Madina Constituency on the 25th of October, 2021 but for him to say that honourable Sosu Should not have joined his people to misbehave is understatement.
The one issue that has become the headache of many Ghanaians is the issue of e-levy proposed by the finance minister in the 2022 budget. This issue has become very debatable and has come with a lot of criticisms from Ghanaians. Just recently, the Finance Minister Mr. Ken Ofori Atta came out to say that over 11 million jobs could be made for the youth starting next year from the e-levy.
Many have argued that politicians are corrupt once they come into office. People who looked innocent suddenly show their true colors once in power. This is not to say that all politicians are corrupt but majority end up justifying the famous assertion that politics breeds corrupt people. According to the MP, the proposed tax had come to state and will be implemented even if the NDC MPs choose to bleed.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Tema West, Honuorable Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah has added his voice to the ongoing debates on the proposed 1.75% Electronic Levy, in the 2022 budget, by the Finance Minister-Ken Ofori-Atta. In a recent interview, Honourable Ahenkorah said, that the proposed 1.75% e-levy by the Finance Minister is not a compulsory tax, and that, those who don’t want to pay the E-levy should not use Mobile money.
Yesterday, Tema West MP, Carlos Ahenkorah made news when he mentioned in an interview that as long as people don’t use MOMO there will be no need to be taxed. Carlos Ahenkorah said once an individual decides to use the mobile money platform to send money to a business partner, pay for services, remit money home among others, he or she must pay the E-levy.
