Underinvestment in WASH cause of 4.2 million Ghanaians living without safe drinking water -CONIWAS

Chairman, of the Coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Water and Hygiene (CONIWAS) Mr. Yaw Attah Arhin, has revealed that about 4.2 million and 22 million Ghanaians are without safe drinking water, and basic sanitation respectively. He is, therefore, calling on government as well as development partners to increase investments in the sector to address this anomaly.

32nd Mole Confab Opens in Ashanti Region with a call on Gov’t to plan ahead for future emergencies

The Country Director for World Bank- Ghana, Mr. Pierre Frank Laporte has called government, Coalition of NGOs in Water and Hygiene (CONIWAS) and other stakeholders in the WASH sector to actively include planning and budgeting for emergencies in all that they do. Mr., Laporte charged CONIWAS to play an active advocacy role to ensure the WASH sector in Ghana is ready and prepared to deal with any emergencies that will arise.

Ghana is said to be doing poorly in its efforts to meet its target of zero percent Open Defecation (ODF) by the end of the Year 2030. The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector performance report for the year 2018-2019, has revealed that Ghana was able to achieve a paltry gain of four percentage (4%)  points in 20 years.
